I didn't have tools to take the air cleaner housing off and watch the carbs, but I was not smelling strong gasoline in the engine compartment so I don't think it was a case of flooding. But I can't think of what else it might have been. The reason I am slightly skeptical about the vapor lock is it has never done that before, even in 100+ degree weather, and this was a relatively mild weekend (sunny, but in the high 70s and low 80s). The top was down so I'd have noticed any smoke, and I was looking for it. I sprayed starting fluid down the center hole inside the air filter, and it started just like it normally does, and ran fine afterward. The carbs all have insulators under them. Just wouldn't start (it would stumble a bit, but never actually start). I tried pumping, and also holding it wide open while cranking, everything that normally gets a car going. ![]() This time it fired right up, I backed out of the parking space, and it died. ![]() Normally my warm engine fires up without touching the gas pedal at all. Maybe 10% ethanol is more prone to vapor lock. ![]()
